Next day I was walking past abuilding and there was a big tractor with a grab on it and it was dropping tree trunks into a machine and then the machine was spitting out wood pellets. At time I never knew much about BIOMASS and I was wondering what kind of factory this was!? I walked on a bit and here in huge letters I read BIOMASS!? Few days later I was back home and looked up BIOMASS. Then I have worked on ships where bilges were pumped into the sea and we dumped all sorts of crap over the side!? Also involved in the fishing industry and saw fish being landed but as was too many dye poured over them and they were taken and dumped!?!? What damage the military has done by wars and also dumping at sea can be any one's guess!?!? The big companies have added a lot to the pollution and it shall be clear that the oil and pharma companies shall be at top of list!? I did work at a pharma company for a short time and they used to dump all sorts of crap into the sea when the tide was going out!?!?

At one point I was looking at a car park and it was huge!? When I saw it I thought this is crazy and if this is same world over it is not sustainable!? So I wrote about it! I said that it is time that people took a step back and started doing other things for holidays etc. Less air travel and get folk back on ships etc and all have to do a stint at pedalling to help with the power. But it has to be every body! No more private jets, yachts etc. Get rid of motor sports and any other sport where excess travelling is needed. Get more people to go on cycling holiday and more so at home rather than abroad and once again it has to be every body! Hey this is just my views and many others shall have other things to say and suggest but an open honest debate would be healthy.

I've seen climate change in my lifetime - visiting the same glaciers in New Zealand in 1976, 2010 and 2019 for example - massive glacial retreats. I was one of the field interviewers on this study.
The sample is by random address selection, and randomly selected individuals within the household. So it is really quite representative, and the methodology has been developed over the decades this has been running.
Thanks Rob. Ultimately consent for such massive far reaching policy decisions should be opened up to everyone in Scotland....and let's see what those results would be. I don't see how anyone can with a straight face could state that by NOT asking over 99% of a population that somehow constitutes as a meaningful result. It just isn't. I've noticed the people don't get a vote on the things that really matter because they have already been decided for them. Surverys and consultations are window dressing. 'Consent' can also be manufactured. Democracy. Freedom.
It is an opinion poll - and a useful one, but the public is very much influenced by the BBC and other MSM - the science underlying climate change is a real toughie - too many variables.
I've seen climate change in my lifetime - visiting the same glaciers in New Zealand in 1976, 2010 and 2019 for example - massive glacial retreats. So the problem is working out what's causing it, and human burning of fossil fuels MAY be a factor. Which doesn't mean that the next Ice Age isn't lurking in the wings - far from it - it probably is, which is why I remain rather unflustered by the wild speculations - I'm too old at 71 to care much.
I'm far more concerned about the effect of vehicle emissions on human respiratory and heart health - exposure to emissions is linked to cancers, heart disease and Alzheimers. I've driven Electric cars since 2013 for that reason.
I'm also deeply concerned by excess plastics and chemicals, the loss of bio-diversity, the huge loss of songbirds and bees, the grubbing up of woodlands and hedgerows, and the ghastly rubbish called 'fast food' that passes as fit for human consumption.
Opinion polls that could and should be expanded to millions. In the digial age this would be very easy. The human time frame vs planetary geology is like the blink of an eye. Totally agree vs pollution from vehicles and chemicals etc

You place too much faith in 'Opinion Polls' by the way - and I say that as someone who has earned my living from them for decades.
I respect the views of the public - when they speak about their lives. But when you ask people about remote issues that do not impact them much, such as Brexit or Climate change - most of them will parrot media stuff.
This makes sense when you think about it.

It's not that i place faith in them (jeesh you are the guy that works in the field over decades and if you have no faith in then why do it?) it would simply be democratic to ask waaay more people but if we don't place faith in the people and instead prefer politicians and corporations, well just look at the 'COVID' response and results of all that. Climate crisis nonsense will be similar. Freedoms will be eroded/removed living standards will continue to fall ''for the greater good.''

My answer would be yes. In a free country. We already have laws against harassment. Standing silent with a peaceful sign is not that.
Oh, welly it on: I am seriously opposed to burning fossil fuels: but then I grew up in the 1950's when there were few cars, and they were fuelled by petrol enhanced with lead: many of my generation living in inner cities were permanently brain damaged by lead emissions: - which was known for over 50 years to damage health. Take a long view on this - and trust me - as a kid we lived in peak coal, and the air quality was so disgusting my nose ran with green snot. Constantly.

Fuel technology has vastly improved over time https://carowl.co.uk/wisdombase/fuel/fuel-technology and rather than re-inventing the wheel again see 'COVID' response disaster we should work with existing systems and improve those because we KNOW they work well. Electric cars, heat pumps wind turbines, solar panels etc is not THE way forward but backwards. We've been here before to an extent.

Probably not, but there is far too little reliable data to tell - and public opinion is interesting but inconclusive - 70% of people will just tell you what they have been told by the media or their teachers.

'Green' technology i would argue is overall even more damaging to the environment than fracking but this won't be protested. There is plenty of evidence that birds of prey like sea eagles, buzzards, kestrels, peregrine falcons and osprey are on the increase in Scotland despite more wind turbines. This debate has been weaponised and propagandised by the fossil fuel lobby - as a bird watcher myself I'm more concerned by the fall in the smaller birds caused by loss of habitat and especially a fall in insect numbers - and by insecticides and pesticides - and of course the bird flu has devastated some seabird colonies like gannets - though they will recover eventually.
